11:26a Catching Up
Despite LJ annoying me by not responding right on this computer, I thought I'd catch up a bit today.
I have a lot of things to catch up on, actually. I should do that.

6:09p In Brief
It's always best to have company when driving home in rush hour. Not only for the carpool lane, but to keep me from screaming at slow traffic as my car overheats.
We dropped off our donation for Union Gospel Mission today. They were reportedly extremely grateful. :)

I had to keep reminding myself that I was working a 12 hour shift today.

Pizza for breakfast (not cold, which is almost heretic).
Time for Christmas to be packed away. (Well, 95%.)

Using a flame-thrower to get rid of a moth.
Diet Cranberry Sierra Mist should be stocked in can form as 1/2 the shelf stock of Sierra Mist until... March.
Fre Chardonnay is better than Fre Brut.
I have the Fairy Ring Tarot - but not the description booklet. Should I just make things up?

12:02p A New Year
Happy New Year to All!
After a year of barely any input, I've decided to try to post again on a daily basis, only if it's some little (maybe snarky) observation. I promise to keep the drama to a minimum. If at all possible. I seem to be a life-long run of a very bad soap opera at times.
First off, breimh and I failed to stay up for the new year last night. Having been up since 4am made it just a tad too hard, especially after a scrumptuous dinner of turkey. I did wake up briefly as the bone-head neighbors let off the rest of their 4th of July fireworks off their deck immediately next door, but that was EXTREMELY briefly.
This morning breimh and I have had several stimulating conversations, followed by a spiritual cleansing of our apartment, to discourage troublesome influences from darkening our door. Later we'll be braving the streets to see what may be open, hunting for a couple of storage bins as we prepare to put Christmas away for another year.
At work my schedule has been rather topsy-turvy and it will be moreso soon. I'm willingly working 4-8 hours or more of overtime a week when I can get it, to help make sure we have the funds to meet our basic needs and my transportation costs. This next week I will have 8 hours of overtime, working two twelve-hour days during the week, with regular shifts the rest. The following week I work one 12 hour day 7am to 8pm (my usual overtime hours) but the rest of the week I'll be working 10am to 8pm... more of a swing shift. (I get a 1 hour lunch for which I am not paid, so 10-8 is 9 hours, not 10). That will give me another 8 hours of overtime and I kinda get to sleep in... though not really by much.
Sadly, I'm starting the year with several friends still out of work. I'm hoping the new decade will see further recovery and more of these worthy folk finding jobs, including my husband.
One friend who's job ends technically on Sunday, who used to host our monthly rpg games at his workplace, can no longer host, so right now the group is seeking alternates. I may end up hosting every other month at least, which would be nice, since friends don't often come to my place for various reasons, mostly because we live way up North in comparison. I'd really look forward to that.
My other activities these days include my STARFLEET club, though our activities have become quieter, subtle. We're doing our best job as far as continuing charitable collections (such as a large amount of items to deliver to Union Gospel Mission and some pet supplies to go to the animal shelter, and collections for Northwest Harvest), and breimh is still pretty active with a few for movie nights and hopes to get back go game nights.
I'm also starting to feel crafty urges, not surprising during the dark days of winter. I have some fish to crochet, once I relocate the pattern, but I also have some commission work to do for my one and only paying graphics design customer. Yes, I'm technically a paid artist... doing basic layout for a small-business owner. How cool is that?
As far as the crafts, I had an inspiration for a needlepoint design today, which I want to work up. Just a small one. Maybe a couple. I don't know. They'd be gifts for others (after they are scanned for my future reference).
Christmas was nice, though I was sick through the whole weekend, and barely had any waking time. Which was a crying shame, since walks_far had come across the Puget Puddle to join us. I have to say his gift to me (and to breimh and Da'al was the perfect Geek Gift. Honest to you-know-who, and I am wearing some right now. breimh is wearing this right now.
Anyhow, before someone starts howling "LJ CUT YA BLONDE!" I'm going to close this out for the day. More tomorrow!

3:25p 2009 in review
I was going to fill out the Year In Review meme, but as I looked over last year's edition to copy and paste the questions, I realized that most of my answers are the same. The biggest thing by far to happen to me this year was having a child; getting a dog and moving house twice were also pretty significant. I feel like the first half of the year, during which I went to school, was very much split from the second half of the year, when we lived in a different place and when my life was much more baby-centered. Almost like different lives really. It may be petty of me, but at this moment my biggest regret for the year is that I never took cuttings from that rose bush outside our house, which will probably be bulldozed in a month or two.
Anyhow... Year In Review 2008, Y.I.R. 2006, Y.I.R. 2005, and Y.I.R. 2003, for reference.
